About

In the 10 plus years I have been working in behavioral health, it has been a joy to see clients progress and meet goals for a happy and enhanced life with healthy coping skills. My practice is diversified with adolescents, families, couples, and individuals. I often employ Reality and Cognitive-Behavioral Therapies which allow for the work done in counseling to be a problem-solving and solution focused where the client can be in the here-and-now  to create a better future. Typically, clients seek to discover what they really want and whether what they are currently doing is actually bringing them nearer to, or further away from, that goal and I will use a variety of treatment formats that I feel will be most beneficial to the client.

  • Blue Cross Blue Shield PPO and HMO Louisiana plans and United/Optum insurance is accepted pending eligibility verification along with confidential self-pay. All payments are due at the end of each session via check, cash, or Paypal.

  • A 24 hour cancellation  is required to avoid a cancellation fee per policy. Cancellation fees are the responsibility of the client and are the total cost of the session fee.

INDIVIDUALS:

Individuals are motivated to seek therapy for reasons that are as unique as they are. Individuals can gain support, information, guidance, self-knowledge and/or the space to learn and practice new tools . Individual counseling can effectively treat depression, anxiety disorders, grief, trauma, and substance abuse. Therapy can provide a safe, supportive place for people to talk about grief, adjustment to physical illness, the end of a relationship or job, abuse issues, or any change in life circumstances that cause distress. Individual counseling can also be very helpful at assisting with transitions through life, coping with career stress, and family dynamics that can become tense so that you can best juggle all of the responsibilities and roles that modern life can throw at us.

YOUTH and ADOLESCENTS:

There's an Italian Proverb stating "Little children, headache; big children, heartache."  Adolescence and young adulthood  can be  tough. It can truly be heartbreaking for parents  to see their child struggle on their journey to adulthood. Even the most well adjusted and resource accessed teen can begin having major problems at home, with peers and at school. Teens can also seem to be resistant to everything from the parent's perspective and counseling can really help to mediate a solution. I have had much success with overcoming the most resistant of clients to have them make progress in becoming the happiest and healthiest version of themselves-even through adolescence!I am experienced in treating a variety of issues that manifest during the tumultuous teen years including but not limited to trauma and abuse, substance abuse, depression, grief, loss of a relationship or companion, anxiety, self-injurious behaviors and eating disorders, high risk behavior,parent-child relational issues, bullying, low self esteem, and oppositional behavior.

FAMILIES:

Family therapy is a great option to repair or improve troubled relationships. Therapy for a family can do wonders to reduce conflict and open communication so that nurturing and support can be restored or even fostered within the family. This is a great option for families in need of coping skills and education for parent-child relational issues, coping with a family member that may be struggling with substance abuse or mental illness, and blended family issues. Family therapy is meant to be solution focused and provides the tools to the family so that they can navigate complex issues of life.

COUPLES:

Relationships between couples are complex and each individual brings their own values, experiences and expectations. Financial and work stress, family dynamics, attachment issues, poor health, infertility or trouble conceiving, commitment, conflict, intimacy and many more issues  that come about in life result in a response and action by each partner and those reactions can put strain on the relationship. In couples counseling, we will look at the goals, needs, perceptions, experiences, and values of each partner to develop solutions that are manageable by each individual so that the relationship can benefit.  Couples that seek counseling can be successful with conflict resolution, improved communication, greater bonding, intimacy and trust, and unified goals.
